Golden Age 2015
With a postgraduate certificate in sculpture from Slade School of Art, London, Rodney Pople’s practice originates in three dimensional form. Sculpture remains at the heart of his work as is evident in his latest exhibition at Australian Galleries which is punctuated with constructed chandeliers, tables and figures. This three dimensional thinking strongly informs Pople’s paintings which are built up in layers of photographic pigment and paint. Pople has become associated with challenging and often confronting imagery. His artistic role, he proffers, is to draw attention to the hypocrisy that imbues our leading institutions and to reveal the cracks in the halls of power.
